- School Breakfast Program expanded to meet the nutritional needs of more students, and provide free breakfasts five days a week
- More schools invited to participate in 2026
- Over 680 public and non-government schools and education sites now eligible
- Cook Government investing in education and delivering on key 2025 election commitment
More schools have been invited to join a significantly expanded School Breakfast Program, which will support all participating WA schools to provide free breakfasts to their students five days a week.
The Cook Labor Government has invested $28 million to grow the School Breakfast Program over the next four years, to provide more students around the State with greater access to a healthy breakfast.
The program is currently delivered at around 550 schools, many of which only provide free breakfasts to students two days a week.
The expansion of the program will increase the number of schools and education sites where free breakfasts are delivered to more than 680 - with all schools to be supported to provide the service five days per week.
Available from Term 1, 2026, the new program will provide eligible public and non-government schools with food and funding for supervision to enable the program to be delivered across the extra days.
It means more students will be able to access a healthy breakfast more often, giving them the best possible start to their school day.
This investment forms part of the Cook Labor Government's commitment to supporting the wellbeing of all Western Australians and ensuring healthy lifestyles.
Eligible schools and education sites can now register through Foodbank's existing registration process in Term 4 to commence in 2026.
The School Breakfast Program, delivered by Foodbank, has been delivering nutritious breakfasts for students since 2001.
As stated by Education Minister Sabine Winton:
"Serving up free breakfasts five days a week will help set thousands of WA school students up for success each day.
"It is vital that young people have regular access to a healthy breakfast so they can have the best possible start to their school day and are ready to learn.
"This is just another way our government is investing in education and early childhood development.
"The expansion builds on the incredible School Breakfast Program currently available and enables it to reach more students, more often.
"This not only supports students' health, social wellbeing and learning, but also benefits staff and the wider school community."
