The Cook Labor Government's Driving Access and Equity Program (DAEP) has been awarded an internationally recognised Prince Michael International Road Safety Award.
The awards have celebrated outstanding accomplishments and innovations in enhancing road safety worldwide since 1987.
Since launching in 2022, DAEP has helped thousands of people living in regional and remote areas across WA to secure a driver's licence.
The program helps remove barriers including difficulty accessing safe vehicles, driving supervisors and instructors. It makes getting a licence attainable, significantly improving educational and employment opportunities and supporting personal and family responsibilities.
DAEP received the award for its impact through education, training and access to services to develop safer road users.
The Cook Labor Government has allocated nearly $26 million in DAEP grant funding since 2022, as part of its work to invest in more inclusive communities.
The program is currently collaborating with 29 organisations to implement 32 projects in over 100 locations across WA.
As stated by Minister Assisting the Minister for Transport Jessica Stojkovski:
"The Driving Access and Equity Program (DAEP) being recognised on the world stage is a proud moment for Western Australia.
"Having a driver's licence opens the doors to education, jobs and independence. Through this program the Cook Labor Government is helping Western Australians overcome barriers and access opportunities, no matter where they live.
"By investing in education, training and access to safe vehicles, we're not only helping more people get their licence we're helping to create safer drivers and safer roads for everyone."
