Coonawarra wine festivities to drive regional tourism

Australia's pristine limestone coast will be on show next month as many thousands of tourists flock to the region for the annual Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Hon David Ridgway MLC, said that the event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase South Australia's regions.

"The Marshall Liberal Government is proud to support the Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations.

"It's wonderful to see events such as this one drive visitation into our regional town centres and in the process, creating valued economic activity and importantly local jobs.

"Regions are incredibly important to the State's tourism industry with 43 cents of every tourism related dollar generated in our state is spent in the regions.

"This year, the highly anticipated event is expected to attract some 7500 people, with 40 per cent coming from interstate to attend.

"The beauty of this event is that it runs throughout October so there is plenty of opportunity to sample the Coonawarra's beautiful signature red at the event and extend your stay on the Limestone Coast.

"Why not visit natural wonders such as the Naracoorte Heritage Cave, Blue Lake and Umpherston Sinkhole or premium, boutique beef producer, Mayura Station while you are there?"

This year's program features over 60 unique events and more than 200 individual sub-events from wine tastings and brunches to Sunday sessions showcasing great food and music. There really is something for everyone from families to wine connoisseurs.

South Australian Tourism Commission, Chief Executive, Rodney Harrex said the Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations is a wonderful regional event that helps promote the region as a tourism destination.

"When people come to visit our state and regions for events such as these, the benefits for the local community are wide-reaching.

"It's not just tourism operators that benefit, the flow-on effects from visitors can be felt in local restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, retail outlets, petrol stations and the list goes on.

"Our regions rely heavily on having a thriving tourism industry. Tourism expenditure in the regions is currently worth $3.1 billion, that's 43 per cent of our total $7.2 billion visitor economy. I encourage everyone to get out there and support regional SA and the wonderful regional events that are on offer."

Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations runs from 1-31 October 2019. Highlights include: Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations Golf Day, Cabernet [Decade]nce Tasting and Cabernet Masterclass - The great Australian Blend.
