Council lifts restrictions for burning off on small properties

Macedon Ranges Shire Council, in consultation with local CFA brigades, has lifted burning off restrictions on small properties during August 2021.

Under Council's Local Law no.10, residents are usually required to apply for a permit to burn on land less than 4,000 square metres (one acre). Lifting this restriction will assist property owners in clearing debris from recent storms.

It's also a good time for property owners to start reducing the amount of fine fuels from fallen trees and branches which could pose a fire risk later in the year.

Residents must ensure that when burning off they do not create a nuisance to neighbouring properties, and continue to monitor any burn-off for at least seven days to ensure it is fully extinguished. They must also adhere to the conditions listed under Council's Local Law No.10.
