Cairns Regional Council has reinforced its commitment to supporting local tradespeople and developing the next generation of skilled workers through a new 2025 Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) and ongoing employment pathway programs.
In year one of the new three-year agreement, qualified tradespersons receiving the base wage will receive an additional $3,500 allowance.
The agreement also includes a 4 percent relative wage adjustment for outdoor staff, addressing wage competitiveness and supporting the attraction and retention of skilled employees.
Apprentices will benefit from improved wage progression and a commitment to continued employment for at least six months following completion of their training.
Council currently employs 29 apprentices across electrical, horticulture, plumbing, mechanical, and fitting and turning trades, and 13 trainees in business, ICT, and live production/technical services.
Three engineering graduates have also joined the organisation through the Engineers Australia Graduate Program, gaining practical experience across key operational areas.
These initiatives demonstrate Council's strong focus on workforce development and its ongoing investment in creating local career pathways that strengthen the region's skills base and long-term economic resilience.
