Dubbo Regional Council has started playground maintenance works across the region following completion of its annual inspection program.
The program is conducted by an independent third party and designed to keep playground users safe by identifying opportunities for improvement within play sites. This audit is in addition to Council's regular inspection program.
Following this year's inspection, works will occur at several playgrounds in the Dubbo Region including Lunar Park, Elston Park, Mumbil Sports Ground, and the Adventure Playground. These sites will have certain play components closed off to the community while replacement parts are ordered and installation works are undertaken but will remain open for use.
Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Josh Black said keeping the region's playgrounds fit-for-purpose was critical to ensuring young people have safe and enjoyable recreational spaces.
"Keeping these play spaces well maintained and ready for use is a top priority for Council. We love giving our young people spaces that encourage them to get outdoors and enjoy our region.
"We're always proactively seeing how we can maintain and improve playgrounds, and as such, Elston and Lunar Park playgrounds were already scheduled for work in this year's operational plan," Clr Black said.
Manager Recreation and Greenspaces Jamie Lobb said the works will ensure the region's play sites stay up to date with the industry's continuously evolving and highly stringent safety standards.
"Every year we undertake rigorous inspections to ensure we're keeping up with industry safety standards and keeping our children safe.
"Following the most recent inspection, we've already completed 48 per cent of identified works across the Dubbo Region," Mr Lobb said.
While works are undertaken on playgrounds, residents are asked to observe all safety signage on equipment.
