Council to re-open fitness centres and Visitor Information Centres

Fitness enthusiasts will be able to return to the gyms on 15 June with partial re-openings of the fitness and aquatic centres throughout the Region.

Toowoomba Regional Council Environment and Community Committee Chair James O'Shea said Council was pleased to see the easing of restrictions so facilities could once again be opened for public use.

"Our fitness and aquatic centres provide an area for residents to remain fit, active and healthy and as such, it's great to be able to have them open again," he said.

"While we will be re-opening the facilities, social distancing requirements means there will need to be changes to the way we operate these centres, and the number of patrons who are able to use the facilities.

"To ensure we meet the State Government guidelines, access to the facilities will be by appointment or booking only, so we can control the number of people in Council's facilities.

"The centres will not be operating at full capacity with services such as learn-to-swim, group exercise classes and group training sessions still not being offered at this point in time.

"As well as the fitness centres throughout the Region, from 15 June we will also be re-opening our Toowoomba Visitor Information Centre and the Highfields Cultural Centre, with the Millmerran and Hampton Visitor Information Centres opening the next day.

"As part of these re-openings, we would like to welcome our volunteers back, if they feel comfortable to return."
