The Aussie Bird Count is back from 19 to 25 October. This initiative invites Australians of all ages to help create a national snapshot of the country's birdlife.
With one in six Australian bird species threatened with extinction, every count provides valuable information that supports bird conservation efforts.
The public can take part through Aussie Bird Count's app or website. Spend 20 minutes in your favourite outdoor space, count the birds you see and submit your results.
To help young residents get involved, Georges River Council is hosting two special events:
-
The Aussie Bird Count Story Time (3 –5 years) on 20 October.
-
Aussie Bird Count After School (5 –12 years) on 23 October.
Georges River Mayor Elise Borg said the count is a fun and meaningful way for people to connect with nature.
"The Aussie Bird Count is a great opportunity to discover the birds that share our local environment".
"I encourage everyone to take a moment to step outdoors, add to the count and help contribute to a better understanding of Australia's birdlife."
