The Department of Health has reported six new cases of COVID-19 overnight.
The positive cases – all males – are crew from a livestock carrier which is docked in Fremantle Harbour. The ship – Al Kuwait – travelled to Perth from Qatar.
The six confirmed cases were moved off the ship today to a Perth hotel in a State Government operation involving WA Health, WA Police and Fremantle Port Authority as well as the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, Border Force and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
For the time being, the remaining 42 crew members, who are well, will stay on board the ship and will be monitored and undergo health assessments as required.
A WAMAT team will board the ship to further assess crew and provide advice around health and infection control.
