Cr Felicity Sinfield elected City of Boroondara Mayor for 2022

Cotham Ward Councillor Felicity Sinfield has been elected Mayor for the 2022-23 Council year at a live-streamed Council meeting on Thursday 8 December 2022. This will be Cr Sinfield's first term as Mayor since being elected to Council in October 2016. Cr Lisa Hollingsworth has been elected Deputy Mayor after also joining Council in 2016 as Councillor for Lynden Ward.

As the 27th Mayor of the City of Boroondara, Cr Sinfield follows outgoing Mayor Cr Jane Addis (Maling Ward), who has led a passionate group of councillors during a challenging year navigating Council's recovery from the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The newly elected Mayor says she is honoured to continue the hard work of her predecessors, colleagues, Council officers and community groups, and maintain Boroondara's reputation as one of the top performing Councils in Victoria.

"2023 will be an exciting year for Boroondara, as we bring to life plans and policies developed in collaboration with our community who have told us what is most important to them. This includes our ongoing commitment to the environment; protecting our heritage; supporting our local economy; caring for and increasing our trees and open spaces; and delivering the services that support us all to be healthy and fulfilled," said Cr Felicity Sinfield.

"I thank Cr Jane Addis, whose leadership over the last twelve months has been a calming presence for our community while we navigated difficult circumstances. Cr Addis's commitment to Boroondara has not wavered and I look forward to continuing to actively support our community in this role," Cr Sinfield added.

"I thank my colleagues for selecting me as the Mayor for 2022-23 and congratulate Cr Lisa Hollingsworth for being appointed Deputy Mayor after diligently serving the community for the past six years beside me,' said Cr Sinfield.

Cr Hollingsworth said "I am honoured to be elected Deputy Mayor of Boroondara and look forward to working alongside my councillor colleagues and Council officers to represent the best interests of our community. Together we will continue to achieve the best possible outcomes to support the needs and aspirations of the Boroondara community."

As Mayor, Cr Sinfield is looking forward to seeing the implementation of Council's major projects in 2022-23, including $79m in renewed and new facilities to better meet the needs of the community and deliver a significant boost to the local economy. Some exciting developments include the opening of the new community precinct in Canterbury, upgrades to sporting pavilions and the Kew Library, and the revitalisation of several local shopping and dining precincts.

"As our city continues the recovery from the impacts of COVID-19, our investments will keep Boroondara safe and inclusive; a city which our community feels proud to call home."

The new Mayor welcomes Council's new 2022-23 Committee Chairs:

  • Cr Nick Stavrou, Chair of the Urban Planning Delegated Committee
  • Cr Di Gillies, Chair of the Services Delegated Committee.
