Love and sacrifice - Easter and ANZAC Day
Hopefully you all had a safe and Happy Easter. This season brings back childhood memories of door-knocking the streets collecting for the Good Friday Appeal, enjoying a lunch of smoked cod, hot cross buns and chocolate eggs. Then onto camping trips, making the most of the last of the nice weather.
The holiday period means many different things in our increasingly secular and multicultural society, but for me as I've aged, Easter in my Christian point of view is simply about love. In John 15:13, God gave of Himself and laid down His life as an example of love's sacrifice, which is simply what one does for others.
With the above in mind please spare a thought and consider for a moment those among us doing it so tough during this cost of living crisis. Recently shared by Martin North from Digital Finance Analytics was data showing that 2484 (52.6%) of households in our 3465 postcode area are in some kind of financial (mortgage or rental) stress. It is a very sobering point indeed that so many are hurting.
As a society we have gotten ourselves into a bad place, but by having a good hard look at how we got here and working together, then in time we can strategise a way out.
With ANZAC Day this Friday I'm again reminded of the word sacrifice. This time though in solemn remembrance of our forebearers who, like Christ, laid down their lives for us. Pease attend services if you're able.
Yours in Service
