Cracker Night Illuminates NT Territory Pride

NT Government

The Finocchiaro CLP Government is gearing up for a spectacular Territory Day 2025, promising a celebration that reflects the Territory pride, resilience, and spirit of our unique lifestyle.

Set to go off with a bang on July 1, Territory Day marks the significant moment in 1978 when the Northern Territory gained the power of self-governance from the Commonwealth.

Each year, Territorians celebrate this milestone and the place they call home, with this year's theme, 'Our Stories. Our Home. Our Territory.,' highlighting the diverse voices and strong connections that define the NT.

Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said Territory Day was an important occasion which brought people together to celebrate what makes the Northern Territory so special.

"Territory Day is a part of who we are; it's more than just fireworks, it's about Territory pride, shared history, and celebrating our truly unique lifestyle," said Mrs Finocchiaro.

"During our year of action, certainty, and security, we are proud to have delivered on our election commitment to ensure Territory Day fireworks will continue being held at Mindil Beach - where they belong."

Minister for Major Events and Tourism and Hospitality Marie-Clare Boothby said Territory Day was a celebration of the Territory's proud identity and strong community spirit.

"Territory Day is one of the most unifying and uplifting events on our calendar. It's a time for families, friends and communities to come together and celebrate who we are," said Ms Boothby.

"From major centres to remote towns, the night will be filled with local events, community spirit, and of course, fireworks lighting up the skies right across the NT."

Fireworks displays will be hosted at 21 locations across the Territory, with signature events including:

Darwin: Alongside the Mindil beach Sunset Markets from 4pm, the program is bigger than ever featuring circus workshops with Fringe star Dr Rubes, a silent disco, roving entertainers, live music and more, ending with a huge beachside fireworks display.

Alice Springs: At ANZAC Oval, even bigger fireworks are promised along with live entertainment and a new family-friendly area with heaters, kids' activities and food stalls.

Katherine: At the Showgrounds, expect market stalls, food vendors, fireworks and Brisbane 'stomp and holler' country music band 'The Wet Whistles' will take the stage.

Tennant Creek: There'll be plenty of live music to celebrate the occasion, with Eleanor Jawurlngali performing with her trio band , Patsy Coleman and the Work Camp Band.

"Whether you're watching fireworks with family, lighting up the night sky, or enjoying a local community event, we hope everyone has a fun and safe Territory Day," said Ms Boothby.

"If you're celebrating at home with your own fireworks, please do so safely and follow the advice of authorities, who will be out on the night working hard to keep us all safe."
