New crime statistics released today confirms criminal offending remains at record highs under the Allan Labor Government.
Data from the independent Crime Statistics Agency has confirmed that since Jacinta Allan became Premier in September 2023:
- Total criminal offences have risen by 23 per cent.
- Residential aggravated burglaries have risen by 13 per cent.
- Family violence related serious assaults have risen by 58 per cent.
- Motor vehicle theft has increased by 65 per cent.
- Prohibited and controlled weapons offences - including machete related crimes - have risen by 21 per cent.
- 283,792 crimes remain unsolved, an increase of 51 per cent.
In the 12 months to March 2026, a total of 268,144 Victorians lodged a victim report - 735 a day - whilst there are more than 500 fewer police on the beat today than when Jacinta Allan became Premier.
Under Labor, Victorians do not feel safe in their homes and their local communities - but it doesn't have to be this way.
Our Liberals and Nationals team has a comprehensive plan to end Labor's crime crisis and keep Victorians safe. We will:
- Recruit 3,000 additional Victoria Police officers.
- Reopening the more than 40 closed or reduced hours police stations.
- Hire 200 additional PSOs and return them to every single metropolitan train station.
- Implement real Adult Crime, Adult Time laws - including for firebombings.
- Introduce a tough new one-strike bail rule for serious offences.
- Invest in early prevention and rehabilitation initiatives to keep at-risk youth out of a life of crime.
Leader of the Opposition, Jess Wilson, said: "Under Labor, cops are down, crime is up and Victorians are paying the price.
"Community safety is a top priority for my team, and we have a comprehensive plan to end the crime crisis.
"A Liberal and Nationals Government I lead will keep Victorians safe by hiring 3,000 additional police, returning PSOs to every metropolitan train station and implementing real Adult Crime, Adult Time and a tough new one-strike bail rule for serious offences.
Shadow Minister for Police and Corrections, Brad Battin, said: "Victorians are sick of being told everything is fine when they can see what's happening in their own communities.
"The numbers don't lie. Under Jacinta Allan, crime is up, police shortages are getting worse and more Victorians are feeling unsafe.
"After more than a decade of Labor, people are paying more, getting less and watching criminals get away with it.
"Victorians deserve a government that backs police, puts victims first and takes crime seriously."
