Joint media release with the Hon Lia Finocchiaro MLA
The Albanese and Finocchiaro Governments have extended disaster recovery assistance for communities impacted by Severe Tropical Cyclone (TC) Fina.
Litchfield Council, Cox-Daly Unincorporated Area, Marrakai-Douglas Daly Unincorporated Area, West Daly Regional Council and Victoria Daly Regional Council are all now eligible.
On 19 November 2025, the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) advised that TC Fina formed in the Arafura Sea off the north coast of the Top End, bringing destructive winds, heavy rainfall, flood risks, and widespread disruption across many Northern Territory communities.
Financial assistance is available under the Albanese and Finocchiaro Government jointly-funded Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), to facilitate the recovery process, and provide immediate relief to individuals and families displaced by the event.
In addition, joint support is being provided for counter disaster and immediate relief operations, including removal of debris to allow safe access to homes and essential public infrastructure, temporary repairs to public infrastructure and long-term reconstruction of damaged roads, bridges and public infrastructure.
Financial assistance is also available to eligible primary producers and non-profit organisations affected by TC Fina, to help affected organisations recover, maintain essential operations and rebuild capacity.
Eligible primary producers may access Freight Subsidy Disaster Assistance to offset costs associated with emergency fodder, replacement fencing materials and replacement livestock. The subsidy covers up to 50 per cent of freight costs, capped at $5,000.
In addition, non-profit organisations whose assets have been significantly damaged as a direct result of TC Fina can apply for Asset Assistance Grants of up to $10,000 to repair or replace affected assets.
Eligible Local Government Areas (LGAs) include Belyuen Community Government Council, City of Darwin, City of Palmerston, Coomalie Community Government Council, Cox-Daly Unincorporated Area, Litchfield Council, Marrakai-Douglas Daly Unincorporated Area, Tiwi Islands Regional Council, Victoria Daly Regional Council, Wagait Shire Council, West Arnhem Regional Council, and West Daly Regional Council.
Further information on eligibility and application processes is available at Severe Tropical Cyclone Fina.
