Decade Of Get Sight Right: 2026 March Blitz Results

Georges River Council

On Thursday 19 March, Georges River Council participated in the Get the Site Right blitz campaign. This year marks their 10th anniversary in continuing their efforts to reduce sediment pollution from construction sites and improving waterway health across NSW.

Get the Site Right is a joint taskforce between the Parramatta River Catchment Group (PRCG), Cooks River Alliance, Georges Riverkeeper, Sydney Coastal Councils Group, Water NSW and NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA). It also includes many Sydney councils, including Georges Riverkeeper member councils.

Together, these organisations enforce best‑practice standards at residential, commercial and major infrastructure sites to help protect local waterways and surrounding environments.

Council's Compliance Team inspected a total of 69 construction sites across the Georges River area. Of these, 54 were found to be compliant with erosion and sediment control regulations, while 15 sites were not. As a result, 8 penalty notices were issued, totalling $19,500 in fines for non-compliance.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "Keeping our waterways healthy is something our community deeply values. Participating in the Get the Sight Right campaign ensure that we continue to strive for a clean and safe environment for all."

Members of the public are encouraged to report water pollution incidents, including poor sediment control, to Council via the Log-it/Fix-it tab on Council's website Create Customer Request (nsw.gov.au) or by contacting Council's Service Centre on (02) 9330 6400 or via the NSW EPA's 24-hour Environment Line on 131 555.
