Deliberate fire at Stieglitz, TAS

Tasmania Police is calling for information from the public in relation to a deliberately lit fire at Stieglitz near St Helens yesterday. , Tasmania Police say

The fire comes as firefighters continue to battle a 7500 hectare blaze which started nearly a fortnight ago at Argonaut Road, St. Helens.

Senior Constable Matt Lovell of St. Helens Police said it was disappointing that people put further lives at risk and further stretched already committed firefighting resources.

"Firefighters have done an amazing job protecting life and property for the past few weeks," Senior Constable Lovell said.

"To think that somebody or some people would deliberately put the public and firefighters at risk of further harm is alarming."

The fire was first reported around 1.30pm and took local fire crews two hours to control with the help of a water bombing helicopter.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
