Democracy sausages support local schools

Volunteers at ACT public schools are preparing a feast for voters at the Federal Election on Saturday.

P&C associations are hoping to raise funds for their school at over 50 sites, offering voters the traditional democracy sausage and, in many cases, much more.

“We’d urge voters to support their local public school by grabbing a sausage or a cake,” says Alison Elliott, President of the ACT Council of P&C Associations – the peak body for the public school parent groups running the BBQs and food stalls.

“The last couple of years have been hard, and there have been limited opportunities to raise funds which go to enhancing our public schools.”

“As always, some P&Cs have responded in a big way,” she says. “Depending where you vote you may be able to peruse a market stall, shop for second-hand books, grab a raffle ticket, or enjoy cakes, pastries and coffee.”

“Some are also providing live entertainment, kids activities, or artisan market stalls,” says Ms Elliott. “And there will be bacon and egg rolls for early birds – they always sell out fast!”

“Even if you have pre-poll voted, you can still have fun and support the local school.”
