On Wednesday, 29 November, an unauthorised demonstration took place in the lobby of the Main Building of the University of Helsinki. The University summoned executive assistance from the police, as some of the participants intended to stay and occupy the space after the doors had closed. It is not allowed to stay overnight on the university premises. A group of demonstrators then moved to Porthania, where they were also removed by the police.

Above all, the use of University facilities must be safe. In the event of emergencies, it must be possible to evacuate them quickly. Demonstrations hinder the University's regular operations, including teaching. In addition, University facilities are rented for events organised by external parties.

"The use of University facilities must be safe. No one is permitted to organise demonstrations or other events at the University solely on the basis of a notification by the organiser. The event had not been agreed on with us, nor would such a disruptive event have been granted permission," says Director of Administration Esa Hämäläinen.

Today, the National Defence Training Association of Finland had rented the Great Hall for its annual meeting and presidential election panel, which the noisy demonstration disturbed.
