Discover Wild Bayside

What's living in your local park, along the foreshore or in your own backyard?

The City Nature Challenge invites you to find out, and your observations may contribute to real scientific research.

From 24-27 April 2026, photograph or record wild plants and animals using the iNaturalist app as part of the Greater Melbourne City Nature Challenge.

Citywide Bushland Crew Member Belinda said the event helps build understanding of local biodiversity.

"The City Nature Challenge helps us understand what's actually living in our local environment. Every observation adds to our knowledge and helps us better care for our reserves," she said.

Belinda will run an evening insect survey at Balcombe Park Reserve as part of the Challenge.

"During the insect surveys we set up moth sheets at night and walk through the reserve together, discovering species people often don't realise are right on their doorstep," she said.
