To celebrate Library and Information Week from 27 July – 2 August, Macquarie Regional Library will be hosting an Open Day on Thursday 30 July 2026 at its Dubbo and Wellington branches.
Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Josh Black said, the Library Open Day is a great opportunity for people who may not have stepped foot into the library before to come and see all the different free resources and programs available to the community.
"The Macquarie Regional Library team will be on hand to show you around the library, answer questions and assist you to get a library card and start borrowing."
"Come and discover what your local library has to offer and how they have changed," Clr Black said.
Libraries are the heart of the community, providing access to books, computers and digital resources, a place to study, read or work and social connection.
According to the State Library of NSW's Balancing the Books report, only 40 per cent of NSW residents have a library card.
"Libraries are a community place that are free to join and offer something for everyone in the community. From children's programs to study spaces for teens as well as books clubs and programs for seniors," Clr Black said.
"Macquarie Regional Library is a place where people feel welcome and can enjoy all the library has to offer as well as accessing the online library 24/7. Best of all it's free to join," Clr Black said.
At the Library Open Day, Macquarie Regional Library will also be hosting a Reading Relay from 10am – 5pm where people can sign up for a 20-minute slot of reading in a special reading nook. The aim is to have someone reading for the duration of the open day. Sign up by contacting the Dubbo or Wellington Library.
Not a member of Macquarie Regional Library? Join between 27 July and 2 August and go in the draw to win a pair of Apple Air Pods. Winner will be drawn Monday 3 August 2026.
