Disturbance at Austin Place at Sheffield

At approximately 8.30pm on Saturday 20 August 2022, police from Latrobe, Devonport and Ulverstone attended to a report of a disturbance in Austin Place, Sheffield. Information was received that a person had been injured during an altercation between two men. Ambulance Tasmania also attended. Three people were arrested at the scene and taken to Devonport Police Station. Two of the people were released from police custody.

As a result of investigations in relation to the incident, 23-year-old male from Sheffield has been charged by officers from Devonport Criminal Investigation Branch with Criminal Code Assault and Resist Police. A 54-year-old male was treated overnight at the North West Regional Hospital at Burnie for his injuries, but he was discharged from hospital earlier today.

The 23-year-old male will appear in an after-hours court in Devonport at 7pm this evening. All parties involved in the incident are known to each other. At this time no further details can be released until after the court appearance, but investigations are continuing in relation to the circumstances of the incident.
