Redevelopment of the former Mullumbimby Hospital site has taken a step forward with Council publishing a preliminary vision, objectives and design principles for community feedback.
The Draft Site Strategy and an Urban Design Protocol can be viewed at Council's website and feedback is encouraged until 14 November 2022.
This draft document includes all of the 2018 endorsed recommendations from the Mullumbimby Hospital Project Reference Group.
Council Staff will be available for a chat and to answer any questions at a Drop-In Session on Wednesday 9 November from 3pm to 6pm in the foyer of Council's offices on Station Street, Mullumbimby.
"The purpose of this consultation is to do a quick check-in with the community that we are on the right track with the vision, objectives and urban design principles for this site," Council's Place Planning Coordinator, Andrew FitzGibbon said.
"This is a rare, flood free 4.4 hectare parcel of remediated Council-owned land that is near the town centre and close to everything Mullumbimby has to offer.
"There is potential to deliver somewhere between 100 to 129 dwellings on this site and supporting community infrastructure.
"This check-in is just a first small step in a very long process of consultation with the community to ensure we deliver the very best outcome in line with community expectations and needs," he said.
"The next step is to move to Planning Proposal stage to amend the land's zoning and other development controls to enable housing.
"At this stage we will be engaging with the community in detail on how the vision, objectives and design principles apply to the site," he said.
The Draft Site Strategy and Urban Design Protocol, together with input and feedback from the community, will provide the basis for Council's drafting of the Planning Proposal and DCP amendments in 2023.
