Council endorsed the draft Rural Tree and Public Safety Management Policy for public exhibition for 28 days. The policy focuses on managing trees within council-controlled rural areas, including roadside reserves and cemeteries, to improve public and motorist safety and protect council assets. It also provides guidance for staff decision-making, informs residents of council's responsibilities, and establishes a consistent, risk-based approach to tree management. Feedback from the Transport Infrastructure Committee in May 2026 has been incorporated, including a stronger emphasis on safety in the policy title and framework, while noting that environmental offsets and tree replanting may be considered separately in future policy development.
