Police have charged a 24-year-old Invermay man following a targeted operation focusing on dangerous driver behaviour in the Launceston CBD.
At approximately 11.30pm on Saturday, 19 September 2026, police observed a vehicle performing a dangerous act of loss of traction in a car park in Paterson Street, Launceston.
The driver was intercepted, arrested and taken to the Launceston Police Station, where he returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.126 – more than twice the legal alcohol limit.
The driver's vehicle will be clamped for three months and the man has been charged with relevant hooning and drink-driving offences. He will appear before the Launceston Magistrates Court in December.
Inspector Craig Fox said combining alcohol with deliberate high-risk driving behaviour created an unacceptable risk to the general public.
"Police will continue to conduct targeted operations in the Launceston CBD and take action against drivers who put themselves and other road users at risk," he said.
"Our message is simple: if you drink, don't drive, and if you choose to engage in dangerous driving behaviour, expect to be arrested and your vehicle clamped or seized or, in some cases, destroyed."
