Campbelltown residents can dispose of household chemicals like pesticides, herbicides, solvents, household cleaners, paint, motor oils and fuels at the Household Chemical CleanOut event on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 April.
Held in conjunction with NSW Environment Protection Authority, the two-day event will take place at the Suez Campbelltown Service Centre at 59 Junction Road, Leumeah from 9am to 3.30pm.
Mayor George Brticevic said last year's Chemical CleanOut event collected 59,846kg from 1,482 people.
"The Household Chemical CleanOut events are a great opportunity for people to dispose of their household chemicals in a safe, environmentally friendly manner, free of charge," Cr Brticevic said.
"Some of the most popular items dropped off at last year's event were paint, motor oil, lead acid batteries and gas cylinders," he said.
"It's important that these types of materials aren't disposed of in kerbside bins or in the kerbside clean up service so I'd encourage everyone to keep doing the right thing with these items and drop them off at these events."
Items that will be accepted include:
- Solvents and household cleaners
- Floor care products
- Ammonia based cleaners
- Fluorescent globes and tubes
- Smoke detectors
- Paint and paint related products
- Pesticides and herbicides
- Poisons
- Gas bottles
- Fire extinguishers
- Pool chemicals
- Hobby chemicals
- Acids and alkalis
- Car batteries
- Motor oils, fuels and liquids
Only household quantities up to a maximum of 20 litres or 20kg can be dropped off, with the exception of paint. Up to 100L of paint will be accepted, but it must be in containers no bigger than 20L. Commercial quantities of chemicals will not be accepted.
