DTU's annual summit on education and research will offer a debate with a new minister and many new political spokespersons.
For the fifth year running, DTU invites you to the Education and Research Policy Summit. On 2 October 2019, politicians and representatives of universities and the business community will thus debate the direction of education and research in Denmark.
Following the parliamentary election in June, a new Minister for Higher Education and Science has been appointed, and most of the political parties have new spokespersons. The summit at DTU will therefore be a unique opportunity to learn more about the views of the Danish government and the political parties.
Minister for Higher Education and Science Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen (Social Democratic Party) is one of the speakers at the summit, where she will present the government's plans for the future conditions at the universities. The political parties' education and research policy spokespersons will also be available for a panel debate.
The debate on the university programmes will focus on whether the political governance mechanisms should continue to govern the education sector, or whether it is time to find new ways. It will also be questioned whether the current funding model can ensure the right incentive structure if Denmark is to educate more people within the technical/scientific field (STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Medicine)).
The educational ceiling, the cap on the number of international students, and the two per cent savings will also be debated. The debate on education will be launched by the director of the Danish Evaluation Institute (EVA), Mikkel Haarder, and the chairman of the Polyteknisk Forening (PF student association), Søren Anton Steffensen Kuhberg.
'Can research save the climate' is the headline for the summit debate on university research. DTU's Dean of Research, Katrine Krogh Andersen, the director of the think tank Concito, Christian Ibsen, and the chairman of the Confederation of Danish Industry's Committee on Research and Education, Carsten Boesen, will set the stage for a debate with the political spokespersons on the political priorities.
The political parties' spokespersons at the summit will be Mai Villadsen (Red-Green Alliance), Astrid Carøe (Socialist People's Party), Kasper Sand Kjær (Social Democratic Party), Katrine Robsøe (Danish Social Liberal Party), Stinus Lindgreen (Danish Social Liberal Party), Katarina Ammitzbøll (Conservative People's Party), Jens Henrik Thulesen Dahl (Danish People's Party), Ulla Tørnæs (Liberal Party of Denmark), and Henrik Dahl (Liberal Alliance).
The summit is moderated by DR2 TV presenter and author Niels Krause-Kjær.
