Edward River Council is celebrating a major funding success, with two priority projects approved under Round 2 of the Sustainable Communities Program, securing a combined $5.6 million investment in the region.

To be delivered in partnership with Riverina Region Early Education, Council has secured $4 million for the Perrin Park Early Learning Centre, alongside $1.6 million in upgrades to the Deniliquin Saleyards Precinct - two initiatives that will support jobs, strengthen essential services and drive long-term regional resilience.

The Perrin Park Early Learning Centre project has also been backed by Origin Energy's commitment of $2 million, further strengthening the delivery of the purpose-built, 110-place early childhood education and care facility in Deniliquin. The project will help address critical childcare shortages and support workforce participation across the region, with strong advocacy from Member for Murray Helen Dalton MP playing an important role in progressing the initiative.

Upgrades to the Deniliquin Saleyards Precinct will enhance infrastructure supporting the agriculture and transport sectors, improving efficiency and strengthening a key economic asset for the region.

Mayor Ashley Hall said the announcement is a significant milestone for the community.

"This is fantastic news for Edward River and a strong endorsement of the projects we've been advocating for on behalf of our community," Mayor Hall said.

"These initiatives reflect what we've consistently heard from our community - support for working families, strong local industries and investment in practical infrastructure that will benefit the region long into the future.

"This funding will help ensure our region continues to grow, attract people and provide opportunities locally."

Chief Executive Officer of Edward River Council, Jack Bond said the outcome reflects strategic planning and strong partnerships.

"These projects were identified as clear priorities because of the role they play in enabling economic growth, supporting workforce participation and strengthening community services," Mr Bond said.

"This funding is a major boost for our region and demonstrates what can be achieved through strong advocacy and collaboration.

"We look forward to progressing these projects and delivering long-term benefits for our community."

Riverina Region Early Education General Manager, Felicity Michael, agreed on the importance of planning long-term in regards to early learning:

"Growing regional communities need the infrastructure that supports families. The Perrin Park Childcare Centre will help ensure Deniliquin remains an attractive place to live, work and raise children for many years to come."

The Sustainable Communities Program supports communities across the southern Murray-Darling Basin as they respond to change, with a focus on job creation, economic diversification and community resilience.
