Elderly man assaulted during home invasion at Moree

Police are appealing for public assistance after an elderly man was injured during a home invasion at Moree, in the state's north-west.

About 5.45pm yesterday (Friday 1 December 2023), an 82-year-old man was confronted by an unknown man inside his home on Chester Street.

The intruder threatened the man and demanded money before striking him to the head with a spanner and spraying fly spray in his face.

He fled and the man alerted his neighbours who then contacted emergency services.

Officers from New England Police District attended and drove the man to Moree Hospital for treatment.

A crime scene was established at the home and an investigation into the incident is underway.

The man is described as being of Aboriginal appearance and aged in his 20s or 30s.
