NT Fire and Emergency Services (NTFES) has today hosted the Northern Territory Emergency Management Symposium in Darwin, under the theme Lessons that Shape Us: Learning from the Past, Preparing for the Future.
The symposium brought together representatives from across the Northern Territory's emergency management sector to share insights, discuss seasonal outlooks, explore emerging risks and lessons from recent emergency events.
The Symposium is particularly significant following the 2025-2026 Higher Risk Weather Season, which was characterised by consecutive, compounding and concurrent emergency events which tested communities and emergency management capabilities across the NT. These emergencies reinforced the importance of strong partnerships, coordinated action and continuous learning.
The program featured a range of presentations focused on emergency preparedness, capability development and lessons management, culminating in an expert panel discussion and a Q&A on key issues shaping the future of emergency management.
Key speakers included senior representatives from the National Emergency Management Agency, the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience and Natural Hazards Research Australia, who shared insights on current trends, research and best practice in emergency management.
NTFES thanks supporting partners Natural Hazards Research Australia, Northern Territory Police Force, and the Department of Chief Minister and Cabinet for their contribution to the successful delivery of the Northern Territory Emergency Management Symposium.
