The Penn State Learning Factory will host its biannual end-of-semester showcase for engineering students to present their cornerstone and capstone design projects.
The in-person showcase will take place from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, at the Bryce Jordan Center, while the virtual showcase will take place Wednesday, April 29, through Wednesday, May 6. Both versions of the event are free and open to the public.
The showcase offers an opportunity for first-year cornerstone and senior capstone students across the College of Engineering to present their solutions to real-world design challenges posed by sponsors. Typically, teams of four to six students work for 15 weeks designing a product, process or service for a local or national firm or governmental office. Projects showcased in past events have ranged from flexible hip implants to biodegradable tree stakes to automated imaging systems for cutting tools.
Projects, posters and videos will be judged for awards, including a People's Choice Award, voted on by attendees of both the in-person and virtual versions of the showcase. Winners will be announced at the end of the showcase and listed on the showcase website.
A complete list of current projects and sponsors can be found online. Companies interested in sponsoring projects for future Learning Factory showcases can find more information here.
