Local writers who live, work or study in Campbelltown are encouraged to submit their entries for the 2025 Fisher's Ghost Writing Prize .

This year's competition invites participants to enter their short stories, narrative non-fiction memoirs, or poetry addressing the theme of 'Down the Road'.

"This year marks the fifth running of the Fisher's Ghost Writing Prize and the quality of works continues to reach new heights each year. This is a terrific chance for our city's creative talent to challenge themselves," Mayor of Campbelltown Darcy Lound said.

"We had a record number of more than 110 entrants in last year's competition, and it would be fantastic to see us continue building on that outstanding effort in 2025," Cr Lound said.

Categories on offer include:

  • Adult
  • School students grade 4-6
  • School students grade 7-9
  • School students grade 10-12

The Fisher's Ghost Writing Prize is managed and judged by WestWords and Campbelltown City Library .

This year's adult category will award $300 to the winner and $100 to the highly commended entries. The student categories will award $100 to the winners and $50 to the highly commended entries.

"We are proud to be once again partnering with Campbelltown City Council to present the Fisher's Ghost Writing Prize," WestWords Executive and Publishing Director Michael Campbell said.

"Stories reflect every facet of our lives – the good, the bad, the difficult, the funny. They help us understand ourselves and the world we live, and through sharing them with others, build an empathetic and cohesive society," Mr Campbell said.

"We can't wait to find out what is 'Down the Road'."

Eagle Vale Library, Glenquarie Library, Ingleburn Library (Greg Percival) and Wedderburn Writer's Retreat will host a series of writing workshops during the July school holidays to help entrants develop their writing before submitting their works.

Entries are now open and close Monday 8 September. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in early November.
