Professor Karen Hussey appointed Chair of Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee (ERAC)

The Australian Government has appointed Professor Karen Hussey as Chair of the Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee (ERAC).

The committee gives independent advice to ensure the integrity of the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) scheme..

One of the recommendations from the Independent Review into the ACCU scheme was to re-establish ERAC and to:

  • give the committee updated terms of reference and functions
  • ensure a skill mix of committee members
  • for at least 1 member to be a First Nations person.

Professor Hussey's experience in climate policy and stakeholder management will help restore confidence in the ACCU scheme.

Her appointment will help ensure the ACCU scheme delivers on action to reduce our emissions, to help us reach net zero by 2050.

The announcement is another step to implementing all 16 recommendations of the ACCU review.
