The repatriation of Daly River residents is now complete, with the remaining evacuees returning home this afternoon, just over two weeks after the community was evacuated.
CEO Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet and Territory Recovery Coordinator Mr Luccio Cercarelli said the repatriation was a well-coordinated operation.
"Our primary goal in recovery is always to restore impacted communities to business-as-usual as soon as we can," Mr Cercarelli said.
"Teams worked round the clock to make this happen. Over the course of the flood response and recovery, hundreds of NT public servants have lent their skills and support, as well as the many external stakeholders and emergency partners such as the Red Cross, Victoria Daly Regional Council, Green River Aboriginal Corporation, Five Mile Station, Aboriginal Interpreter Service, DeafConnect, the National Emergency Management Agency and the Bureau of Meteorology.
"Together we assisted around 450 people from Daly River. Most were evacuated by bus and stayed at Foskey Pavilion, others self-evacuated, made their own accommodation arrangements or were away from the community but also unable to return home.
"Once the waters started to recede, it took just over a week to restore infrastructure and essential services in Nauiyu to a safe and fully-functioning condition, with power, water, schools, shops, medical, network coverage and everything people need to resume normal life."
