School leavers, job seekers and young people can explore skills and training opportunities leading to diverse careers at the Adelaide Careers and Employment Expo on today and tomorrow at the Adelaide Showgrounds.
Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni said there has never been a better time to consider a skilled career, with subsidised JobTrainer courses now available to registered job seekers and people aged 17 to 24.
"The Marshall Liberal Government has partnered with the Morrison Government, registered training organisations and industry to progress a skills-led economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic," Minister Pisoni said.
"Our investment in the $88 million JobTrainer program will deliver skills in industries where there is demand for workers now and in our state's new and emerging sectors.
"Through our investment there is now a variety of low-fee courses and qualifications available that will unlock opportunities for work or further training."
JobTrainer prioritises training pathways to support South Australians into employment, with tens of thousands of jobs in the key areas of:
* The social care sector – aged care, disability care, childcare
* Defence industries; * Cyber security;
* ICT; and * the creative industries.
"The Careers and Employment Expo is the ideal event to check out your options and the many pathways to these careers of the future," Minister Pisoni said.
"Don't miss the Skilled Careers stand where you can discover the diverse range of careers at your fingertips through a skilled pathway.
"The 'Defence Industry Zone' at the Expo is a must visit – it showcases the significant opportunities for lifelong careers in defence industry projects such as naval shipbuilding, and other Hi-Tech sectors such as cyber and space.
"Visitors to the expo will have direct access to South Australia's leading employers, including international defence industry companies."
Chief Executive of Hessel Group Tanya Cole said the social care industry is an essential service within the community.
"We need skilled workers to feel confident in providing safe, purposeful care," Ms Cole said.
"Modern social care delivers rewarding and fulfilling careers."
"JobTrainer is the first step on the pathway to new and rewarding careers in South Australia's growth industries, offering eligible jobseekers and school leavers access to low-fee qualifications and short courses tailored to the needs of industry," Minister Pisoni said.
"For employers, there has never been a better time to invest in training and employ an apprentice with State and Federal Government incentives, including the Morrison Government's $1.2 billion Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements program to support 100,000 apprentices."
