Expressions of Interest Opens for new Darwin Convention Centre Hotel

NT Government

The Expression of Interest (EOI) for the Darwin Convention Centre Hotel is now open with six international hotel operators already interested in the project.

The NT Government's commercial advisor, CBRE Hotels, commenced market sounding for the investment opportunity last month and so far have received strong interest from both investors and hotel operators, including Accor, EVT, Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG), Marriott, Radisson Hotel Group and Toga Far East Hotels.

The EOI is the first step in the competitive market process to secure a private sector proponent to build, own and operate a new hotel which will be integrated with the Darwin Convention Centre. This development will greatly add to the thriving tourism, residential and hospitality offerings at the Darwin Waterfront.

The Darwin Convention Centre Hotel is expected to offer between 200 - 250 rooms, and provide new, upscale accommodation options for corporate and leisure visitors.

The Darwin Convention Centre Hotel development site is on Stokes Hill Road directly adjacent to the Convention Centre and offers spectacular views across Darwin Harbour and the Waterfront.

Experienced proponents interested in the opportunity can visit the CBRE website herewith the EOI closing on 31 January 2023. Additional information can also be found on here

"The Darwin Convention Centre Hotel has already garnered investor interest and will be an important development to attract visitors and new business to the Territory.

"The Darwin Convention Centre Hotel is listed in the NT infrastructure plan and pipeline 2022 as one of the key projects that align with the strategy's investment objectives, in particular, to invest in the right infrastructure, in the right place, at the right time.

"This dry season we saw all of our hotel operators stretched to capacity and room available was tight. This hotel will be a much welcomed addition to the thousands of tourists who are eager to visit the Territory."

Quotes attributed to the Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Nicole Manison:

"The international interest showcases the unique opportunity the Darwin Waterfront Hotel provides, the chance to be part of a thriving and exciting precinct.

This project is great for tourism, especially in the area of conference travel, creating an extra 200-250 beds in Darwin.

But it's also great for local well paying jobs in tourism and hospitality, and will have flow on benefits to surrounding restaurants, tour operators and will reinvigorate our Waterfront area."
