Fairfield Hits Beach, Bondi Gets Cabramatta Flavor

Council Free Beach Bus.

Fairfield City Council is excited to announce the return of its popular FREE beach buses this summer! Following last year's incredible response, we are bringing the program back in January 2026, giving residents another chance to enjoy Sydney's beautiful beaches without the hassle of tolls, fuel costs, or pricey parking - all while offering Bondi locals the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of Cabramatta.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone is proud to be bringing the program back for a second year.

"These free buses give everyone the opportunity to experience some of our iconic beaches without breaking the bank. Beaches belong to everyone, not just the lucky few.

"The summer break can also be a lonely time so this is an opportunity for people to get out and meet new people while having a beach day to remember.

"There are families in Fairfield City that have never been to the beach, and we want to change that. Equally, there are people in Bondi who have never made a day trip to Cabramatta - the free beach bus program is a chance for cultural exchange and experiencing something different."

While Fairfield residents are soaking up sun and waves, Bondi locals will have the chance to hop on a free bus to Cabramatta for their own adventure, to explore what the area has to offer, tasting authentic Cambodian and Vietnamese cuisine along the way, and discovering the vibrant culture of Southwest Sydney.

"Fairfield City is full of hidden gems that many people don't know about," Mayor Carbone continued.

"From the incredible restaurants serving traditional dishes to bustling markets offering exotic fruits and specialty ingredients, Cabramatta is a destination in its own right.

"Visitors can savour authentic flavours from Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, China and other culinary traditions across Southeast Asia, explore vibrant markets for unique produce, and soak up the warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes our community so special. Fairfield City is proud to be a destination worth discovering".

The program kicks off with a trip to Watsons Bay on Sunday 11 January 2026. This hidden gem is perfect for families, with calm waters, a lovely seaside atmosphere and views of Sydney Harbour. On Sunday 18 January, the buses head to Manly for a classic beach experience, golden sand and a lively promenade, and on Sunday 25 January, Fairfield City locals will enjoy Bondi's world-famous waves and buzzing beach culture.
