Fans Flock to Cairns for QPS Rugby State Finals

The Far North Queensland Marlins will host more than 350 Queensland Police Service (QPS) members between April 28 and May 2, for the 2025 QPS Rugby League (QPSRL) State Championships.

Officers and staff from across the state will take part in the week-long competition at Alley Park in Gordonvale, battling for the Far Q Cup.

The Far North Queensland Marlins, Mount Isa Mongrels, Northern Stingers, Central Queensland Razorbacks, Wide Bay Whales, Brisbane Bulldogs, Southern Boars, Southeast Muddies will face off in the men's competition, and the City Cyclones will take on Country Thunder in the women's.

FNQ Marlins Secretary Detective Senior Constable Owen Rodgers said he is expecting fierce competition from all sides.

"Far North police are very excited to welcome all 10 teams, we know everyone has been training hard but only time will tell if they can handle the Cairns heat," Detective Senior Constable Rodgers said.

"These tournaments are extremely important for encouraging a positive culture within the QPS, it's a chance to strengthen relationships with members across the state and build a community through sport.

"Policing can be a difficult job, so coming together to support each other both on and off the footy field, encouraging mateship and not only improves our mental health, but allows us to better serve our communities across Queensland."

Members of the public are invited to attend carnival games on April 29 and 30 between 12pm and 5pm, followed by the finals on May 2 at Alley Park.
