Fatal collision in Leongatha South

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision which occurred at Leongatha South this afternoon, Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told a Renault SUV travelling north on the Bass Highway swerved to avoid cars which were stopped due to a car turning onto Leongatha South-Outtrim Road about 4.50pm.

The Renault has then collided with a car travelling south on the Bass Highway.

A passenger in the Renault, a man aged in his 50s, died at the scene.

A young boy was airlifted to hospital in a non life-threatening condition.

A woman and a man were transported to hospital by ambulance with non life-threatening injuries.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the collision.
