Fatal Police Shooting In Yarra Junction - Update

Detectives are continuing to investigate after a man was shot by police in Yarra Junction yesterday.
Officers were called to a home on Warburton Highway to reports of a woman being seriously assaulted about 5.30pm on 30 July.
Upon attending the address, two police officers were confronted with a man violently assaulting the woman.
The man ignored requests from officers and a taser was discharged in an attempt to subdue him and stop the assault.
The male continued the assault, and a police officer has discharged his firearm.
Officers then rendered first aid of both the offending male and the female victim.
Ambulance crews were called to the scene, but the 45-year-old Yarra Junction man could not be revived.
The 48-year-old Yarra Junction woman was taken by air ambulance to hospital, where she remains in an induced coma with life threatening injuries.
Investigators have confirmed that the man and woman were brother and sister.
At the time of the incident, it's understood two other family members were also inside the property.
A 77-year-old Yarra Junction woman was taken to hospital for shock.
A 49-year-old Yarra Junction man was not physically injured during the incident.
Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the matter with oversight from Professional Standards Command, as is standard procedure for a fatal police shooting.
The State Coroner, Judge John Cain, also attended the scene.
