Festival of Happiness to Help Lift Coffs Community Spirits

Coffs Harbour City

To coincide with International Day of Happiness on 20 March, Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery is holding a free two-day Festival of Happiness on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 March 2022.

"The Festival is a much needed lift for community spirits as we continue to face various challenges in our everyday lives," says Cultural Services Team Leader, Michelle Smith. "It's inspiring and a lot of fun."

It also has a natural alignment with Jan Allsopp's solo exhibition Complex Simplicity, which is currently on show at the Gallery and explores the concept of everyday happiness through bright, happy colours and recognisable shapes and textures.

The Festival will include art workshops for children and adults, Conversations with the Artist (Allsopp) and the Curator (Chloe Waters), plus cultural and mindfulness-centred activities.

Free and happy events over the two days include:

  • Friends of the Regional Gallery members morning tea | Friday 10-11am (Friends of the Gallery only)
  • Yoga and Art Reflection with Om Yeah Yoga Studio | Friday 12:30-1:15pm
  • Happy Cooking and Culture session with Sabeeha's Kitchen | Friday 2-3pm
  • Conversations with the Artist and Curator | Friday 18 March 5:30-7:30pm
  • Creating for Happiness workshop with Jan Allsopp | Saturday 19 March 10-10:45am and 11-11:45am (all ages, families welcome)
  • Jam session with Indigenous musician Tareik Hart | Saturday 1:45-3pm
  • Complex Simplicity 3D Tour for those who are unable to make it to the Gallery in person, or would just like an extra dose of serotonin!
  • Happy Hour which is an Instagram program highlighting snippets of happiness from the arts and local communities. Share in the joy and catch our weekly posts!
