Festive Cheer Filled Streets Of Darwin City

Darwin City Council

Darwin's city centre came alive last month as thousands gathered to celebrate the annual Christmas Pageant, supported by local retailers who embraced the true Territory festive spirit.

This year's event was elevated by two new additions - the Christmas Concert and the City of Darwin's Makers Market - which drew crowds into the city centre and created a vibrant, day-long celebration.

Lord Mayor Peter Styles said the strong turnout reflects the community's ongoing enthusiasm for events that bring people together.

"This year, City of Darwin delivered an incredible Christmas pageant with the new events offering something for everyone.

The community groups, performers, schools and volunteers were central to the success. The updated Christmas Pageant route and the Civic Park transformed into a hub with food trucks added to the festive atmosphere, he said.

"I would like to thank the community, attendees, sponsors, volunteers and performers for coming together to celebrate the beginning of the Darwin festive season and making this year's Pageant one to remember."

Mr Styles said the additional events encouraged people to stay longer in the city centre, supporting local business and retailers.

Darwin City Retailers Association (DCRA) General Manager, Aithne Archibald said the Association was delighted to have coordinated the Makers Markets with sponsorship from City of Darwin; with 23 stallholders that showcased quality local products complementing the local retail and hospitality businesses.

"Seeing the city streets chock-a-block with families, friends, locals and visitors enjoying this truly Darwin flavoured festive family day was such a buzz - we loved being a part of this annual event that kickstarts the Christmas shopping," she said.

She thanked retailers who extended their hours and said early feedback had been positive.

"Outside of the Pageant, it is a wonderful reminder of the great range of shops, cafés and restaurants in the City Centre, especially as we head into the Christmas shopping season.

DCRA look forward to partnering with City of Darwin in the future, she said.
