Finalists Announced For WasteSorted Awards 2025

Western Australian organisations and community members making an impact to reduce waste and inspire positive change have been recognised as finalists in the 2025 WasteSorted Awards.

A total of 39 finalists have been named across 10 categories in the annual awards hosted by the Waste Authority, which celebrate people and projects that encourage avoidance, reuse, repair or recycling of waste.

Projects shortlisted in 2025 include donations of refurbished goods to people in need, initiatives to reduce single-use plastics on mine sites, and local government programs that help residents avoid waste through repair labs and sustainable fashion events.

Award categories comprise a diverse range of sectors including individuals, businesses, government, schools, community organisations and not-for-profits.

The categories for 2025 include:

  • Community Waste Award
  • Schools Award
  • Business Award
  • Waste Champion Award
  • Waste Team Award
  • Local Government Award
  • Regional Award
  • Community Events and Engagement Award
  • Innovation Award
  • Closing the Loop Award

2024 award winners included:

  • Uluu, who won the Innovation Award for its product that turns fermented seaweed into a plastic alternative to reduce plastic waste;
  • City of Kwinana, who won the Community Engagement Award for their 'Face-your-waste' program, an initiative designed to gather data on recycling perceptions while educating residents at their bins; and
  • The Office of Major Transport Infrastructure Delivery (OMTID), who were the Discretionary Award Winner for their emphasis on sustainability, consistently achieving over 90 per cent diversion of construction and demolition waste from landfills, and actively promoting material reuse across projects.
