Fire in unit complex at Glengowrie, SA

A man has been arrested after allegedly setting fire to his own unit at Glengowrie overnight, according to SA Police.

Police and MFS crews were called to a fire at a unit complex in Rellum Street, Glengowrie at 1.30am on Thursday 23 August.

Fires had been lit in a top floor unit and stairwell of the 24-unit complex. All occupants were evacuated and there were no reported injuries.

On arrival in the street, a police patrol located the occupant of the unit. The 29-year-old Glengowrie man was arrested and charged with resist arrest, aggravated assault (police) and arson. He remains in police custody and is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.

The fire was extinguished by MFS crews who managed to prevent it spreading to other units. Crime scene investigators attended and examined the scene overnight.
