Two men have been arrested after police located a firearm, ammunition, drugs and stolen identification during a Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO) compliance search in Roxburgh Park this morning.
Gang Crime Squad and AFP's National Anti-Gang Squad detectives executed the FPO compliance search at two Hawker Avenue, Roxburgh Park addresses early this morning.
They subsequently located a handgun, assorted ammunition and a large quantity of cannabis.
A 32-year-old Roxburgh Park man, the subject of the compliance search, allegedly attempted to flee police by jumping out his bedroom window onto the roof.
He was pursued by police and arrested, who further located methylamphetamine, cocaine, stolen identification and ammunition shells in his possession.
He was charged with traffick and possess cannabis, possess cocaine, possess methylamphetamines, handle stolen goods and firearm/FPO related offences.
He will appear before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court this afternoon.
A 22-year-old Roxburgh Park man was released pending further enquiries.
Firearm Prohibition Orders are an integral enforcement tool that provides police with specific powers to proactively respond to, disrupt and prevent firearm-related crime in Victoria and keep the community safe.
Once issued, an FPO remains in effect for 10 years for adults and five years for children, which is those between 14 and 17 years of age.
During that time, the individual is prohibited from acquiring, possessing, carrying or using any firearm or firearm related item such as ammunition.
They are also unable to enter a range of premises including firearms dealers, shooting ranges or firearms clubs.
The charges relating to FPOs are significant - 10 years imprisonment for acquiring, possessing, carrying or using a firearm or firearm related item.
Since they were introduced in May 2018, Victoria Police has issued over 1300 FPOs across the state.
The Gang Crime Squad targets the gangs causing the greatest harm in the community as well as individuals who support and enable their offending.
