The Albanese Government has today appointed John Bradley PSM as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of Australia's first National Environmental Protection Agency.

The National EPA, set to launch on 1 July, is the cornerstone of the Australian Government's landmark environmental law reforms which will better protect our precious environment while powering productivity.

It will be a strong, independent regulator ensuring better compliance and enforcement of strengthened environmental laws and supporting national productivity through quicker, more streamlined approvals for project.

Mr Bradley brings to the role more than 25 years of senior leadership experience delivering major system reforms in environment regulation, water, energy, natural resources, climate and planning.

Most recently, he led Victoria's Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action and Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning for a period of eight years.

He has also held senior leadership roles in business, and government in the environment, resources, energy and water sectors in Queensland and Western Australia.

Minister for the Environment and Water Murray Watt said Mr Bradley's mix of skills and leadership experience would be invaluable in setting up the National EPA up for success from day 1.

"Mr Bradley's diverse background in public administration, industry and the not-for-profit sector make him the ideal candidate to effectively deliver real gains for the environment and business through the National EPA," Minister Watt said.

Mr Bradley said he couldn't wait to start in the new role.

"The National EPA has a critical role to play as the agile, independent umpire Australia's environment needs," he said.
