  • By partnering with community housing provider, the Crisafulli Government and Mangrove Housing are delivering safe and secure homes for vulnerable Queenslanders.
  • The Crisafulli Government is delivering more Queenslanders a place to call home with a record pipeline of 52,500 social and community homes by 2044 after a decade of decline under the former Labor Government.

The Crisafulli Government's landmark new procurement process to grow community housing in Queensland has delivered its first homes for vulnerable families.

The Queensland Community Housing Investment Pipeline (Q-CHIP), launched in September, invites community housing providers to submit projects for funding consideration at any time.

The first Q-CHIP project given the green light is providing 17 turn-key social homes at Loganholme, close to public transport, shops, medical facilities, and schools.

This project was only possible due to the flexible and always-open QCHIP process, which saw Mangrove Housing present the opportunity and then have a contract with the State to deliver these homes within just four months.

Mangrove Housing will manage the three-bedroom properties, which will serve as safe and secure homes for Queensland families on the housing register.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering a place to call home for more Queenslanders through the Securing our Housing Foundations plan, after the former Labor Government's decade of decline.

Q-CHIP is supported by the Crisafulli Government's record funding of $5.6 billion over four years, along with ongoing baseline funding of at least $500 million per year locked in from 2029-30.

In just six months, the government has received more than 100 pre-submission requests for projects that have the potential to deliver thousands of new social and community homes across the state.

There are now more than 6,000 social and affordable homes in construction or under contract to be delivered, with more than 65% in partnership with a community housing provider.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Sam O'Connor said the Crisafulli Government was delivering a place to call home for more Queenslanders.

"For too long Queensland's community housing sector has been overlooked, leaving us with one of the lowest percentages of community housing stock in the nation," Minister O'Connor said.

"We're determined to change that by keeping the door open year-round for community housing providers to put forward projects that will change lives.

"This project was only possible because of the unique Q-CHIP process. Previous community housing funding programs had fixed timeframes and stages, which meant time-limited opportunities like this were lost.

"Community housing providers like Mangrove Housing are vital partners in delivering much-needed housing supply across the state.

"I look forward to seeing more Q-CHIP proposals and projects take shape in the coming months to deliver a place to call home for our most vulnerable.

"We're already got thousands of homes underway – and with our record $5.6 billion investment into social and community housing, there will be many more to come."

Mangrove Housing CEO Teresa Reed said this new development of three-bedroom townhouses is a significant step forward in delivering safe, high-quality homes for families who need them most.

"Delivered in partnership with the Department, the project reflects what is possible when government and community housing providers work together with a shared focus on long-term outcomes for people and communities."

Single mum Charly said she and her two children, one of whom lives with disability, were looking forward to moving into their new home.

"The Mangrove Housing team have been so caring and considerate of our needs. We're so grateful for our new home and being able to stay close to our supportive community," she said.

"The kids are very excited."
