Five NATO Allies support medical rehabilitation in Ukraine

Five NATO Allies; Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom, will each lead the development of one of the five military rehabilitation centres. NATO provides overarching coordination and guidance on the project.

Operation Renovator was launched in 2023 and is run in cooperation with Ukraine. With a budget of EUR 100 million, it supports the coordination of providing equipment, medical training, and infrastructure work. The project has facilitated life-saving surgery, prosthetics, and training for Ukrainian medical specialists, including doctors, psychologists and physiotherapists, in addition to delivering construction work and equipment-enhancing Ukraine's capacity to care for its wounded military personnel, both physically and mentally.

The CAP is NATO's overarching framework to provide Ukraine with non-lethal support and help the country achieve full interoperability with NATO. It includes supporting the rehabilitation of injured personnel from the defence and security forces as well as reintegration back into service or civilian life. These efforts demonstrate NATO's commitment to provide Ukraine what it needs to defend itself today, and to deter Russian aggression tomorrow.
