Former priest charged with child sex abuse - Richmond Police District

A former priest has been charged with the historic sex abuse of a 13-year-old boy on the state's far north coast.

In August last year, detectives from the Richmond Police District received a complaint about the abuse of a schoolboy in 1978 and commenced investigations.

Police allege the boy was befriended by the priest during high school scripture class and piano lessons; and was later assaulted on the far North Coast.

Around 2.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 13 March), Richmond PD investigators travelled to the home of the 85-year-old former Anglican clergyman at Stockton in Newcastle.

He was charged with buggery and issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice.

The man is expected to face the Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 2 May.
