Former world surfing boss appointed to key tourism role

Former Association of Surfing Professionals (now known as the World Surf League) CEO Brodie Carr has been appointed as Tourism Western Australia’s new Managing Director.

Tourism Minister Paul Papalia announced Mr Carr’s appointment last night at the WA Tourism Conference.

Mr Carr, who is originally from Perth, has more than 20 years’ experience in marketing and events. He is currently the Director of Front Foot Agency, a brand consultancy he co-founded, located in France and Sydney.

During his six years at the Association of Surfing Professionals, Mr Carr initiated and led organisational change that saw the association change to the World Surf League and become the global, multi-platform sports business it is today.

His other roles have included General Manager, Basketball Australia; and Business Manager, Sydney Olympic Games.

More than 100 applications were received for the role and a rigorous recruitment and selection process was undertaken.

Mr Carr has been appointed for a five-year term which will commence on Monday October 8, 2018.

As stated by Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:

“Congratulations to Brodie Carr on his appointment as Tourism WA Managing Director.

“Mr Carr has impressive experience as a CEO and executive, and brings a wealth of marketing and events knowledge to the Managing Director role.

“Under the guidance of the Tourism WA Board and the Director General of the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, he will lead the agency as it implements the Two-Year Action Plan to drive more visitors to Western Australia.”
