The contribution will be used to provide treatment and prevention services to over 90,000 malnourished pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under five suffering in Cabo Delgado, Nampula and Niassa provinces.
"A nutritious diet is an inherent component of care and treatment in the context of food insecurity," says Antonella D'Aprile, WFP's Country Director in Mozambique. "France's support is timely and enables us to provide a package of preventive and treatment activities among vulnerable groups of people."
As part of the government's national Nutritional Rehabilitation Programme, WFP delivers specialised nutritious food and necessary medical equipment to more than 300 health facilities in the three northern provinces to treat moderate acute malnutrition. WFP also trains and mentors health facility staff to conduct screenings for acute malnutrition whilst promoting measles vaccination, vitamin A supplementation and deworming.
The Government of France is a firm supporter of WFP's nutrition activities in Mozambique. Since 2021, France has provided a total of EUR 2.5 million in contributions towards WFP's activities in Mozambique.
